“…AND GOD SAW THAT IT WAS GOOD”

The dish was piled high with a vibrant tumbling of blackberries, raspberries and blueberries. Placing it on the garden table, Sophie picked up one particularly large, perfectly formed blackberry and looked at it appreciatively. “If you were God,” she observed, “how could you not be proud to have created something as perfect as this blackberry?”

Joined by the raspberries and blueberries (bravely refusing to be cowed by the adulation shown the blackberries), and accompanied by Strawberry Panna Cotta ice cream - also from God, but with the assistance of his disciples at Hagan Daz - it was the perfect ending to a perfect summer Sunday evening…

My friend Phil writes:

"Ah, blueberries out of season. I have some growing in the backyard, but it will be ages before any berries appear!"

Well readers... we ate them! Although, in the interests of accuracy and foodieness we should make it clear that the ice cream was Raspberry and Panna Cotta...

It may have said 'Raspberry' on the container but it tasted of Strawberry...
The Panna Cotta was very 'cotta' and all quite scrumliscious.

And what we have ALL forgotten - and shame on us for having done so - is that Akiko provided divinely melt-in-the-mouth biscuity-things. Tube-shaped and comprising thin layers of rolled buttery gorgeousness, they were, curiously, wrapped to look like cigars and are a favourite delicacy in Nagasaki - and it was easy to see why.

We quickly discovered that by boring them into the ice cream you could add a filling of Strawberry (or, if Polkadots is to be believed, Raspberry) and Panna Cotta, resulting in a totally delicious taste sensation.

Jonathan - being a leader among men - then further topped off his ice-cream-filled-cigar-biscuit with the addition of a raspberry stuffed with a blueberry! It was the move of an assured gourmet, and the rest of us could only look in with admiration...
